More Track & Field Safety Tips

Hi, my name is Jabari Pride and we're back with ExpertVillage.com. Before we really get in to the warm up, let's cut back a second and talk about some more safety issues. Let's talk about the order of your warm up. What you really want to do when you are warming up before let's you say, you're going to run in a track meet, you're going to compete in an event, you want to make sure that you jog first. So the first thing you're going to do is run, you know anywhere from two to three miles, just to really get your body warmed up. The second thing you then want to do is, is you want to stretch. And then the third thing you want to do is do some drills. And the fourth thing you want to do is maybe go over into some specific drills for that specific event. So with that said, the first thing is your warm up. And the reason that you want to go from your warm up to your stretching is because you don't want to just start stretching your body cold. If you're cold, if your muscles are tight, they're cold and you start stretching, you're going to, the greater your chance of pulling something, so you want to make sure to warm them up. Now that's why I would start with a warm up first, and then you go into your, your stretching second. Now from stretching, you want to do your drills. Same, you know the same theory. You don't want to just start doing drills. I mean, yes you can warm up with drills, but I mean the stretching is really going to get your muscles ready to do something explosive. If you have an explosive drill, and you didn't warm up correctly, and you have a, a sore hamstring, you know you can easily pull your hamstring because you just didn't warm it up you know correctly. So one, jog, two, stretch, and then three drills. Just basic general drills just to get your body ready to do your specific event or to do any explosive movements. Now the fourth thing you want to do is maybe some drills for your specific event. So if you're a sprinter, you might want to do some sprint drills, after just doing some basic plyometric drills that you might have done before just to warm up. If you're a thrower, you know you are not going to be doing the same specific drills that a sprinter would do, before your event. So with that said, now you have your one, you got your jogging. Your two, you have your stretching. Three, just some general drills just to get you warmed up and ready to do some explosive things. And four, your specific drills for your specific event. And with that said, we're going to continue on with some more safety issues.
