Similarities Between the Violin & the Human Voice

Hi! I’m J-Adam Smith of Violin from the Heart and Fiddle Team USA. I’m back to you again with Expert Village to talk about the violin. Today’s talk is going to be on how the violin is the closest instrument to human voice. The easiest way to do so is play for you so let me show you. Now, what I played for you is something that you have probably never heard before because I created it for you. I was expressing myself, kind of singing to you lullaby sleep. With the instrument, you have to understand that there are lot of things that are comparable from the violin to the human voice. First, I have my hand right now on my vocal cords. Now we all have vocal cords if your talking. I hope you do, I really hope you have vocal cords. The violin has vocal cords also. It has got 4 of them, the strings. Notice we have a neck that is holding our vocal cords or keeping our body intact to have vocal cords, well the violins got a neck. Go figure, the people who created the violin called it neck because it makes sense. We also have a diaphragm. We have the area that we collect our air and our breath to be able to talk. If we didn’t have one we would be talking very quietly like this. So understand that we have to have an area, a chamber, that is going to be allowing air and vibrations in so we communicate. The violin has got the same thing inside the F-holes you will notice that. Dating back to the days that the instrument was first made, the violin was topic for many, many artists and really, really popular, because they used to create silhouettes on people’s backs, actual paintings of woman having their back very comparable. If you think right here coming from the side of the violin on both sides is arms, you could see that this right here is their back and this is their hips and it is very, very pretty. I definitely suggest that you go in and check out. See some art back in the day on violin. You will notice that it was very, very popular. Also, the violin, the expression of it, is amazing, absolutely amazing. Obviously, it’s the topic of the movie The Red Violin and such, that was really, really neat showing the heart of the instrument and how amazing and how…people actually called it the devil’s instrument. I like to kind of think of it as a gift from God. There are different ways that you can look at it, but definitely 100% the violin is one of a kind. It’s very, very special and understand if you are playing it you are very lucky. This is J-Adam Smith of Violin from the Heart Fiddle Team USA. Catch you again.
