MARK BLOCKER: Hello. I'm Mark Blocker on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment, we're going to cover "Caulking the Door Jamb". And what I'm referring to is in the corners of the molding, up in the corners of the door jamb itself, you'll see gaps, and what we're going to do is fill those with caulk. Now, as I apply beads, what we're trying to do is just fill the void. We don't want to lay a bead down the corner, all the way down and try and round the corner out or anything of that nature. All we want to do is fill that void. So I'm going to apply a light bead. And on a job of this size, if you're just doing one jamb, a small tube works really good, just a small hand tube. It has a finer tip; it's easier to apply in smaller amounts. But, as I stated earlier, we're on an industrial job and we've got 43 of these doors to do so we're using a little larger gun. I just want to put a small light bead, just kinda go back and forth, work it into the corner...and as I stated we don't wanna--we aim to fill the void. So I'm going to take a wet rag or a damp sponge and wipe off any excess. Just leave the gaps filled; anything we didn't fill, we can come back and add a little bit more in a just a moment. A damp sponge--not wet, just basically damp--works real good. Get up in the corners, get all the excess out...and make sure you wipe off all the residue off the edges, because as the caulk dries, it leaves kind of a rough surface and that'll have to be sanded down or it'll affect the finished coat of the paint. So, as I just applied that caulk and got it nice and clean into the corners, we want to go around and get each and every crack, in between the molding, on the top of the jambs, and anywhere else where there might be a seam or a crack. And as you're applying the caulk, as you get excess buildup on the tip, just keep wiping that off and keep a good, clean tip and that'll prevent you a little--less work in getting the caulk off the door jamb. So just take your time and go around and get all the cracks and, as I stated, just fill the voids, once you've got all the caulk applied and wiped off.
