How to Handle a Plunge Router

Hi, I'm Ed Reyes with Master Builders here in Tampa, Florida and I am here for Expert Village. I am going to show you how to use the proper use for a plunge router. Now with the plunge router, the correct way to handle it would be to have the right hand on the trigger. The reason why is a guard in the back to protect your eyesight. Of course, you always wear safety glasses when you are using this instrument. So as you grab it, it is a two handed instrument, use your left hand here, your right hand here, you do not depress the trigger yet. As you place it across the board, you want to make sure that the router bit stays away from the actual material that you are going to router. You would push the button first and then bring the saw into it. Now an important thing is when you are cutting with a router bit, the groove of the wood if you are going this way with it, you do not want to come back because it will kick it off. You have to go in one direction when you are cutting with a router; always in one direction.
