Install the Master Link on a Street Bike

Hello my name is Mario. I'm here with Expert Village and I'm going to show you how to change a chain and sprocket on a sport bike. Alright, so now that we've got the axle through and bolted on the other side. We're ready to guide the chain on and put the link in. Now this is a rivet master link. This slides through here, you have to clamp it on and then spread the rivet. The other type of link you can have is a clip master link. Just like this, this goes in here and then slide it on farther then you clip this in and slide it on. When you put on a clip link you want to make sure if you put it in here and you have this piece here and your ready to put the clip on you put this solid piece not with the groove in the direction of the chain so that it's going this way. You do not want it to be like this, this can get caught on something, pull off, you can lose your chain and it can be a serious accident. Just like that put these spacers on. This is the other side to the link. Now when you get it on here it's going to feel tight like it doesn't push on. Down at your local shop they would have a rivet tool, it's basically we're doing this a cost efficient way just like we did cut off the chain without using a chain breaker. You just want to take a clamp, stick it on this side and clamp it down. Now what this is dong is it's pushing the link over the rivets so just, just like so, now let me show you. You can see right here, it's not in all the way you can see that the gap right there still needs to come through. Just from looking at the back you can tell that it's not in, so you just want to continue clamping this over. It gets to a point where you can't tighten it unless you have another tool so you just want to do it like this. I mean it's really tight, but this does it as good as the expensive tool. Alright that's about just where you want it you don't want to go much tighter than that.
