Choosing a Good Set for the Game of Backgammon
Hi! I am Grady Johnson and I am a competition backgammon player and today I am representing expertvillage.com. Now the first thing you need to do is get yourself a good backgammon set. Now I want to talk a little bit about what to buy. When you are looking at backgammon sets, you can spend a lot of money on these. There are lots of really, really nice ones out there but if you are like me, you do not want to spend a whole lot of money and you want something that is going to have the basic elements you need. Now you do want something portable; this particular board did come with its own case and you can pick these up very, very inexpensively. I brought this at a local retail store. It will have the basic 24 points that are included here and a few other elements that are crucial to the game of backgammon. Now you do have to have a set of dice, at least one but almost all players are going to expect you to have your own set of dice and your opponent needs a set of dice too. Now you will see that these are color-coded and each player has color-coded dice to go with their stones. Now another crucial element is the doubling cube. The doubling cube is very, very important when you are looking at tournament play because this is how you play match games, is by utilizing the doubling cube. The doubling cube is also important in money games. This is very, very, important that you have a doubling cube if you are going to include yourself in competition play. Most all of these games will come with you own cup. I like to throw the cup and in some tournaments they are required. Also, you are going to want to have two different color sets of stones. Each set will contain 15 stones; that is the proper number. So once you have 15 stones on your side your opponent has 15 stones, both of you have a set of dice and you have the doubling cube, you then have everything you need for a basic set for competition in backgammon. Now remember you can spend several hundred dollars on a backgammon set but you just do not have to. I brought this set at a local retail store for just $10.
