Hi, I'm Jae Ellis president of AskRomeo.com, and I'm Danielle, and I'm Jane. And today on behalf of Expert Village, we're going to be talking to you about how to dress for date. Alright everyone, let's talk about the difference between dressing up for a date versus other social functions okay. For men and women, one thing you definitely need to do is you need to dress up a little. So you don't want to go to a date in trainers or in the same kind of close that you like bum around your house. You need to show you put some effort into looking good. By contrast, you don't want to overdress, at least not for the occasion. So if you're going to a black tie affair or formal gala event, it might be appropriate for you to dress up really, really snazzy, really formal. However, in most cases if you're going out, unless the other person is going to be dressing like that too, it's going to put a lot of pressure on them and make them uncomfortable if you dress up way more than they did. And it looks out of place. So, you don't want to overdress for a date, the same way you don't want to under dress for a date. A lot of times you can tell by the kind of person and the venue you're going to go into what's going to be an appropriate kind of dress for you. So let's talk about what happens if you go on a date right after work. You might go to happy hour; in that case you'll still be in your work clothes. That's acceptable, people know you worked and then went straight to happy hour. Now let's talk about what happens if it's later. You don't want to still be in your work clothes. So if you meet someone for a date, and you've had time to go home and change and put on something fresh and nice, you should because if you don't they're going to notice that. They're going to take it as a sign that you don't care enough to make yourself presentable for them. Let's talk about another extreme. Some people, like myself included, like to dress up really over the top when they go to clubs, dance clubs, parties, loud bars. If you like to wear really flashy, kind of pea cocky attire at a bar or club, that's great for that environment. It gets a lot of attention, not so good on a date. Why? It calls all the attention to you and takes it away from the connection. See on a date you want to connect with the other person, hopefully you can make something happen here. So you don't want to be wearing something that makes you look like you need all the attention on you. You want to wear something sincere, that looks good and demonstrates your sense of style, and shows that you care, but also allows the space in the conversation for the two of you to connect.
