1930 Life Magazines

Expert Villagers, let's take a little time capsule trip. This is a true time capsule. This is a Life magazine from 1937, in January. Cover says - notice it's black and white - cover says "Japanese soldiers". There's an article in here about Japanese soldiers, and just what their life is like. And if we flip the pages, we find all kinds of incredible things. This is a wreck of a United airliner, and there's the tragedy of that particular period, which was probably huge news at the time. As we progress, we see Margaret Sanger. A birth control victory! Talk about history. This is a little historical story about Margaret Sanger and the whole issue, the controversy of religious reproductive rights. Here's miners. This is a current story about miners doing their mining work in more rural areas. And we know about nowadays the dangers, well these guys really lived the dangers And look at this stuff right here. Isn't that wonderful? This is a very collectible item on many fronts. This is a Campbell Soup add. One thing, Campbell Soup shows you the culture of the period at the time, types of soup. I mean, look at these soups. You kind of know what they- looks like a minestrone and a split pea. But what's really interesting is, Campbell Soup itself is highly collectible. A lot of people will be looking for Campbell Soup memorabilia, whether it be advertisements, they make dolls, they have bowls. So, as we go through this, one of the more exciting things and things that's wonderful to retain would be the advertising and how it's changed through the ages. So that's another thing you can look for as you just pore through these magazines. They're just full of history and they're so much fun.
