How to Cut Inline Joints in Crown Molding with a Miter Saw

Hi! This is Bobby Hester on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this next clip we are going to demonstrate how to cut an inline joint with a miter saw in crown molding. You might think that cutting your corners at the compound miter setting that you would have to cut your crown in that direction also but that’s not the case, even though that your crown is turned at an angle like that, they are still the two pieces that you are trying to connect together are on the same plane, so it is not necessary to make an inline joint like that unless you just want it for, let us say it is staying great or whatever you want that look. But for the most part, you can cut an inline joint, just as if you would inline joint in base or any other, so you just set your saw to 45 degrees, lay your crown molding flat, here is the first piece. There is your second piece and to match up very well, this kind of joint is… I really preferred cutting this type of joint from my inline cuts and crown, it is just easier to get the joint to line up, especially for walls that are little wavy than it is to have a compound moderate joint in there.
