Hi! My name is Leslie Burnick and I’m speaking on behalf of Expertvillage.com. I’m going to show you how to assemble an alto saxophone. This is the neck of the saxophone and this is the mouthpiece, generally I suggest putting the mouthpiece on the neck because then when you go to put the reed on later, it is going to be easier to do it if you are holding it. The neck does come with a piece of cork, which generally you are going to want to put some cork grease on especially when you first get your saxophone. You only need to put just a little bit on and then just rub this around and you’ll just slide the mouthpiece on, you don’t need to put it all the way on, generally you leave about a half an inch to three-quarters of an inch at the bottom and you lineup the hold with the way the curve goes on the neck. Next you are going to take the body of the instrument and all saxophones should come with a little piece of black protector, sometimes it’s another color, generally it’s black. What this is here for is mainly to protect this one little piece right here, which tends to get bent very easily, so that just keeps it, the whole top of the saxophone protected from getting bent. So again you’ll want to take this out, just leave in your case. There is a little screw here on the top. Make sure that’s loose and then you just going to wiggle gently back and forth to put that in. You are going to lineup again the mouthpiece with the long octave key in the back, tighten the screw again. You don’t have to over tighten, just so it doesn’t wiggle around and another thing that you want to have is a neck strap, it’ll come, your saxophone will come with a neck strap. However, you may want to get one that has a little bit of padding, you’ll just put that on your neck there is a little hook in the back here. Then you are ready to go once you get your reed on, which I’ll talk a little bit more about later. And that is the assembly of the saxophone.
