How to Finish Painting a Bathroom in Oil Based Paints

Hello, my name's Grady Johnson and I'm a professional painter and today I represent expertvillage.com. Now, it's time for our punch out, this bathroom looks great, but it does have a few spots that sort of bounced onto the wrong color. Now, this is always going to happen, don't worry about it, if you can't wipe it up right away or if you just plain miss it, let it dry. This bathroom has already dried for two full days, everything is completely dry, nothing is tacky or wet and it's cured all the way through. Once that's all dry, then you want to go back and find any little places that either were missed and you'll see the little white spots in your color, if that's true, or that got the wrong paint on it. So, what we want to do is just use the tops of our paint and mostly it's going to be this darker color because that's the main base color that actually got the drips on it. So, I shake that up and I want to get a little bit of that paint up at the top and mix it up a little bit at the same time. Ok, that's shook up pretty good, now I'm going to go ahead and pop the rim on this. Now, as you're going along, you might find some stuff that goes with the other color too, just go ahead and remember that, then you can come back and go ahead and punch that out too. Alright, now you see when we pull the top off there is some paint here at the top and that's the paint we're going to use. Now, I don't want to wet a whole brush so, I've got one of these little cheap-o brushes here that I bought along the way. These are only about fifty cents, or so. So, when I get done I just throw those away, I just use them for punch out. So, I'm going to go along and you can see right here, there's a spot right here that was a little hollow ding and that means I missed it, and it just kind of came through, so I'm going to take a little bit and just touch that up. Alright, now the thing that's key on this is you want to feather that out because oil paint does lap and it will show. So, we want to just touch, just a little bit on there, just enough to cover up that white spot. Ok, that's good. Now, if you remember when we were doing the baseboards, there's definitely one back here, so I'm going to go ahead and get that. Now, remember what makes you a good painter is the punch out, so don't worry about it. Now, you don't want to put a lot on it, you just kind of want to feather it out. But you do want to go ahead and get that line, ok, so you see here, we're just going to put a little on that and feather that out a bit. Ok, then that will dry in for us. But, for this, we're going to have to cut a little line, so we're going to do it real carefully. Alright, now we just feather that up a little. Remember the feather is what makes it dry in right, ok. Then you just leave it and go. Ok, fantastic! That looks good as new. Well, I see a couple other spots around the room, but these are just a few of the tips that you want to keep in mind whenever you're doing the final punch out for your bathroom.
