How to Cut the Ceiling for Painting a Bathroom

Hello, my name is Grady Johnson and I'm a professional painter and today I represent ExpertVillage.com. Now I'm going to talk a little bit about cutting in this ceiling to get ready for rolling. Now we're working with oil paint. But today we're going to work with a special oil paint that actually works with latex brushes, because it cleans up with water. Now the first thing we need to do when we start to paint the ceiling is cut it all in. And what I mean by that is you want to take a brush and go along and cut a line all along the top. And when you do that, be sure you don't have a lot of runs or if it does run a little bit, be sure and wipe that out so it's clean. That way you won't have any lapping or anything when you come back and do your rolling. So, what we're going to focus in is cutting this line around the edge. Then we're going to cut around all of our obstacles, like vents and that kind of thing. So we're going to go ahead and cut in this line right here and then we're going to work our way around the rest of the room, cutting in anything that is in our way. And you just want to grab the corner and just work both sides around. So pull it out a little bit. This is a nice and dark color, so you want to try and cover it as good as you can. Okay, well that about does it for this corner. Got to move my ladder. I'm going to cut in this vent, get these hooks over here and then move on down here around the rest of the ceiling. But these are just a few of the tips you want to keep in mind whenever you're cutting in the ceiling to paint it with an oil paint.
