How to Inspect the Belts on a Car

Hi, I'm Doug, I work with 20 great guys in St. Louis at Doug Jenkins Custom Hot Rods and we're going to do some work for you today on Expert Village. While you've got the hood open, take a look at the serpentine drive belts. Some cars have 2, this car has 2; 1 for the left side and 1 for the right side. A little bit of cracking in the serpentine belt is fine, you don't want to have pieces of it missing. But a little bit of cracking is just fine. He's also pointing out there's a little bit of rust colored dust on the belt. That's no big deal, it'll especially happen on the air conditioning belt. The air conditioning clutch going in and out, yeah; you can see the rust dust around there. As the clutch wears, it makes this little dust residue that rusts over time. Nothing to be concerned about.
