The number one defence against cavities I believe is eating properly, the hygiene efforts help and should be done but the diet is number one in prevention of decay.

Choosing a Toothpaste: Dental Care & Oral Hygiene

Hi my name is Carol and I am a registered dental hygienist and I am speaking on behalf of Expert Village and in this segment we will be talking about choosing a toothpaste for adults. Most all adult toothpaste contains fluoride and that is the number one defense against preventing cavities. So when choosing a toothpaste, you want to check for the fluoride on the back. As you can see there are many different brands. All of them are anti-cavity but some of them are specifically for sensitivity, some for whitening. It’s really up to the patient what their preference is on the toothpaste. In some of the toothpaste such as this one right here, has a little bit of grit in the toothpaste so it helps remove plaque a little bit easier. Some of the other ones are like for tartar control that helps prevent more tartar buildup on the teeth than others. Like this one right here it is for sensitivity and the main thing with toothpaste you want to make sure that you use it 2 times a day while you are brushing and it is the continual use of the toothpaste that is going to help with the sensitivity and plaque buildup.
