Cavity Detection & Prevention: Dental Care & Oral Hygiene

Hi my name is Carol and I am a registered dental hygienist and I am speaking on behalf of Expert Village.com. In this segment we will be talking about how to prevent cavities. One of the most important things that you can do to prevent cavities is to make sure that you go in for regular checkups with your dentist at least twice a year. Usually once a year they will take radiographs which help the doctor determine if you have cavities between your teeth. Another way they examine the teeth is by visual examination just by looking. The teeth should be white on the surface and there shouldn’t be any dark spots. They also do the touch examination with their explorer to check for any soft spots on the teeth because the enamel on the teeth should be hard and there should be any sticks when they go through with their dental instruments. Another way to prevent cavities is by making sure that you brush and floss daily with a nice toothpaste that your dental professional picks out for you to help prevent plaque buildup because plaque buildup is the main cause of cavities and also the cause of gum disease.
