How Does Weather Effect a Rock Show

Hi. This is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village. And I'm here to talk to you about planning for bad weather when you're booking a show at a club. Now I live in Boston and the weather in Boston is unpredictable and often terrible. So planning for the weather is really important for me. And it probably is for you unless you live in Los Angeles and it's sunny all the time. When the weather's bad, when there's a snow storm or more heavy rains, obviously people are not going to come out to see the show. Rain is pretty bad. You'll still get a draw, but you'll get less. If there's a snow storm, chances are the show is off. So what you should do is have a plan in place with the venue when you're booking the show in case there's bad weather, so that you know how soon you're going to decide the show is off. Because what you don't want to do is have it turn out that they cancel a show because there's a possibility of snow, and there's no snow that night and you missed out on a show just because people got paranoid. But on the other hand, you also don't want to deal with a situation where the venue waits until the last minute where it's been snowing for a while, but they say, "yea, the show is still going on" and it isn't until you've struggled to get yourself down to the venue and you walk through the snow to unload your amp, to find out that now they're canceling the show. And then you have to call out the people who were going to come and say, "hey, there's no show". It's a big pain. So you need a plan in place. What you should do is talk to the venue and determine just how much time is needed before they decide that bad weather is going to cancel a show. Rain shouldn't cancel a show unless there's a monsoon or a hurricane. Snow storms probably should for safety sake if nothing else.
