What to Expect With Infant Massage Therapy

This is Tanya for Expert Village from Intuition Salon and Spa. The next kind of massage technique that we are talking about is infant massage. An infant massage is not something that you will bring your child in so the massage therapist can work on them for half hour. This is really just a bonding experience between the parents and the child. What the parents will do is bring their child in and the massage therapist will work on them and show them what different things and what different techniques they can do at home to help relieve things like teething pains and digestion and gas. It also helps stimulate sensory reactions and helps the parents and the child learn together. So this is something that is not just for the child it is just as much for the parents. At Intuition what we do is we space out our classes for half hour three different times whether it is over three weeks or whether it is over a month. This is where the parents come in and myself or one of the other massage therapists will go through and show the parents what different techniques they can use on their child and what kind of oils they can use on their child. Most oils and most lotions you cannot use on baby skin. The funny thing is if its edible you can put it on your baby skin. So almond oil and olive oil is perfect but perfumed oils and massage lotion actually cannot be used on babies. So this is something that our massage therapists show the parents as well as we send them home with brochures and pamphlets and little things that the parents can do and just kind of use with their children and with each other.
