What to Expect With Deep Tissue Massage Therapy
Hi! This is Tanya for Expert Village from Intuition Saloon and Spa. The next thing that we are going to talk about is deep tissue. This therapy is used with very little lubrication, it is a deeper therapy along with a trigger point therapy. There is a lot of client feed back. This is deeper to get to the neuromuscular structure of the body. It is not like a Swedish massage, where it just kind of grazes over the skin. The deep tissue really gets in deep. So it is slow a lot of times. There is not a lot of vigorous movements and just make sure if you start feeling pain or if you start to feel too much pressure let your massage therapist know; and also if you start to feel too much pressure, just remember to keep breathing. Because a lot of times you can breathe through it and when you hold your breath is when you start feeling too much of it. But if you do feel too much pressure, let your massage therapist know. Your massage therapist will also get in some odd positions when they are working on you. The way they use their body is how they get their pressure on to your body, instead of just using my shoulders, instead of just pushing down, I will hurt myself. Now if I bend my knees and I use my body weight to push my arms and my hands against you, then I can use that weight and that way I can keep from injuring myself. So it is not my arms that are strong, it is not my hands that are strong, but my legs and my pelvis; and that is deep tissue massage.
