The one chord is the first chord that we are going to be talking about in the blues. Let's look at this chord. It is C as we are in the key of C and C is the root. So we have C in the root we have the third which is E, we have the fifth which is G and then we include the dominant seven which is B flat. The dominant seven refers to the flat seven. It's also on the minor seven interval from the root. This is the bases of the flat seven and the dominant seven in jazz and also a distinguishing character of the blues in general. With this chord, we can have a scale that goes along with it, the scale is a C dominant scale. Let's listen to how this scale is played on the flute, I'll first play the arpeggio on the chord. (playing flute) Notice the flat seven of the C and now we'll play a scale the C dominant scale that goes along with it. (playing flute) The B flat the flat scale really brings out that jazzy blues sound.
