Head to Knee Yoga Pose
This pose is called head to knee pose. Head to knee pose is a wonderful pose to stretch the hamstrings, to stretch the lower back, to stretch all along the lower spine really – and to get a gentle twist at the same time. So you’ll want to start with one leg stretched out in front of you off to the side by about thirty degrees and your other foot pulled up as far as you can into your upper thigh, it can be anywhere above your knee, all the way up to your groin. And then take your finger tips to the floor and turn your heart out, over your straight leg keeping the toes on both feet active. Here you can do this pose with a straight leg or you can bend the knee, inhale taking your arms up over your head and then exhaling, releasing forward. Letting the hands rest on the floor, on the calf, or, if you can reach to your feet, you can wrap your hands to the sides of your feet. Keeping the toes, pulling back towards your face, and each inhale – feel the heart lift as the shoulders release back now, so the shoulders are, the shoulder blades are behind your ribs. And each exhale, very gently release, let gravity take you a little bit closer to that leg, each inhale lifting the heart, lengthening the spine it’s exhale smoothly releasing. And when you’re ready to come up you’ll want to look forward, release your hands, and leading with your heart – back up to sit and over to the other side.
