Cutting the Back of a Christmas Stocking Pattern

Now it’s time to cut the front and the back for your stockings. What you need to do is you need to be very careful when you are cutting these because when you have your little shape and you are putting it down on the fabric, you want to make sure you are cutting your patterns in the correct way so that both sides face each other in the proper way. So first off we are going to cut the back and what I have here as I’ve chosen the back piece that I have chosen for before and I am just taking my little pattern and I’ve got a marker here and I’m just going to go around, kind of putting up in the corner here so that I don’t waste extra fabric. I am just going to go around and trace my little stocking here. It doesn’t have to be perfect because remember what we are doing is we are making it bigger than what it actually needs to be so that we have room when we need to sew the seams together later. So I am just tracing this around. Notice I got the darker side of the fabric is down because when I cut this out and you can see here that I’ve got my little pattern and when I cut it out I want the stocking to hang like this and the little foot will be on the back here. So that’s my back. Now I have chosen the pattern for the front also. This doesn’t matter as much which fabric you pick for the front because of the fact that you are really not going to see it unless you look on the inside but it’s not going to show through at all on the front. I’m just going to take it and I am also laying it down, the main pattern size is down. I’m going to take it and I am going to draw the exact same shape that the first one was drawn. Once we cut those out, we will be ready to start cutting out the other pieces and start making our little stocking.
