Rolling Dough for Rolled Sugar Cookies

Hi, I'm Jennifer Cail. On behalf of Expert Village I'm going to show you how to make a variety of different rolled sugar cookies. One of the great things about the sugar cookie dough is that it does not need to be refrigerated before you roll it out. This is a great time save if you don't want to have your cookie making split into two different parts. So we are going to get all of the dough out onto a prepared counter top. What I've done is taken a piece of wax paper floured it and I'm going to use that for our rolling surface. If you have a pastry board or you want to use something else or if you have a tiled counter top but you can not use for flat surface then you want to do something else. But this is great because it keeps everything in a nice removable place it makes it much easier for cleaning up. Then we want to get a little bit of flour on top of the dough. You want to make sure that this doesn't stick to anything. Then I'm going to take another piece of wax paper to put on top of this to make it even easier to roll out. Because I'm rolling out all of the dough at once I'm not going to worry as much about having different pieces of it. This will also help keep our rolling pin nice and clean, so we are going to roll the dough out between the layers of wax paper until it's about 1/8 of an inch thick. You can see that it's rapidly becoming much thinner make sure that wax paper stays on top of the dough. Let's get this fully rolled out before going onto our next step.
