How to Analyze a Piano Song in D Major

So now we're going to go through and analyze some music in D, real quick just so we can get the melodies down. So if we take a look here, we have-- here's our D right below the staffs. We have D, then we count up one, two, three, four, five. So there's our fives. We got one, five, six, five, six, five, four, three, two, three, four, three, three, one, one. Natural three. Instead of F sharp we'll play half, then E, or two. One, seven, six, five, etc. And you can go through and play through. One, five, six, five, six, five, four, three, two, three, four, one. Three, three, one, one, flat three, two, one, seven, six, five, and so on. And again, for reading the note values, you have quarter notes which is four quarter notes in a beat, right? One, two, three, four, and then eighth notes. One and two and, this is a quarter note triplet. One and three of these equals two beats. And then we have sixteenth notes over here as well. Again, a lot of melodies you're going to be reading out of fake books, I'm sure you're probably already heard on records. Especially if you're into jazz, you're going to probably going to want to look up favorite tunes. So you're going to already know a lot of the rhythms you're reading. And that will help embed all this information as well. We really want to get how to find these different notes and how to get them under your fingers.
