Juggling Drills & Exercises

Now we're going to move onto some of the more fundamental things you should have down with three clubs. I showed you some fun stuff to work on with various types of spin, and now we're going to work on drills that will help you develop skills to learn tricks with both three clubs, and especially with things like four, five, and other higher numbers. We're going to go over what's called the 'flash'. Now, I covered this in the ball section, but a flash can be two things: a regular flash, or a low flash, is one throw and one catch of each prop, as opposed to a full juggle, which is two throws and two catches of each prop; a high flash is where you are throwing all three objects, or however many objects there are, high enough that for a moment of time both hands are empty. With clubs you can do this. With singles, though, it's very difficult. You can more likely do it with doubles and triples. To do it with doubles, you're just throwing all three in the air, and for a moment, your hands are empty. Now, I dropped it, but you should be able to clap underneath a flash. If you're doing triples, you may have enough time to clap twice, which is even more preferable. To get these down you obviously need to practice one throw at a time in a simple cascade form, both doubles and triples. But the three flash for doubles will help you train for five and some fancier tricks, and the three class with three-up with triples will help you train also for some very important three club tricks, and for pirouettes if you eventually want to go there. I will not be covering pirouettes in any of these, but it's something you can look up.
