CD Mastering for an Analog Reel

For Expert Village, I'm Kurt Glaser at KGB Studios. Well now that we've got all the tracks recorded, we've also have them mixed down, we need to find out in the final steps how to master a CD. So we're going to take a peek at some software that we use to actually master that right now. Okay, now that we've mastered the file, we are now ready to burn it onto our master copy CD. Or, if we were doing it in surround sound or AC3 audio with multi-channel sound or DTS with discreet channels, what I would do is save it as an AC3 file or a DTS file and then burn it onto a DVD for DVD audio. I have a different program for that, but that's not the scope of our topic here. What we're going to do here is just burn it. And also we'll select, I've been using this, since I have a Sony burner, I use the Sonic burning software. I really enjoy it, it works very well. And what I'm going to do, since it's an audio track, we'll actually master it with an audio CD for various players. We'll then go through and select the type of file that I want to burn out here and then we'll give the actual track in here. It'll list the length and the play time, the path, etcetera, and how much you've actually used, which is pretty handy right there. And then, after you've selected the song and are happy with the order of the song that you want to burn, then you click the burn and it burns the CD. Now you will have at the finished product, you will have an audio CD that you can play in your car, or in your home, or on your computer or laptop. And that is how we actually master the tracks off of the reel to reel. Sometimes you'll have to change for sound or noise. Sometimes the pops are a little bit too loud and you can erase those very cleanly in the Sound Forage package. And, in the burning software you basically just arrange the order down in this section here under the name. That's how you do it. Join us for the remaining couple of sessions as we finish up here with the 4-track reel to reel.
