Exercising & Menopause

Hello there my name is Dr. Susan Jewell. Now in this clip we’re going to talk about exercise to help you reduce the symptoms of menopause. Now, why do you exercise? Well besides the fact that you, it keeps your body in good condition, keeps you toned, it also helps, exercising also helps release some of the symptoms of menopause, like hot flashes. Now there are other reasons that you should exercise, when you, where you, when you are entering menopause or when you are actually in the menopause phase because exercise also helps prevent osteoporosis, which is a bone related condition and one particular way to prevent osteoporosis is to do weight bearing exercises. Now in the next clip we’re going to talk about, I’m going to demonstrate to you actually how you can do some weight bearing exercises. Then of course other types of exercises besides toning and increasing cardiovascular function is to do Pilates and Yoga, women who have been in menopause for many years usually because of, because of lack of all the reduced production of the female hormone osteop, estrogen puts them at a very high risk of getting very brittle bones and arthritis and so on and so forth, so sometimes exercise, very strenuous exercise is something, something that they find very difficult, so they do other things Pilates or Yoga which is very, a very good way to exercise too, because it also relieves the anxiety and also the mood changes, the depression that normally a lot of women say that they actually experience when they are in menopause.
