Hi this is Kimo Greene and I am here to teach you how to shape a surfboard on behalf of Expert Village. Well basically there is polyester resin. That is the way I buy it, I buy it in this big drum here. Polyester looks kind of green, greenish-blue. This is your "Laminating resin", the laminating resin is used to laminate fiberglass. In order to be able to sand it though, you have to put an agent in it called "Surfacing Agent", which is a mix of styrene and paraffin wax. I use this bottle but, that is it, it is called "Surfacing Agent". Without this you can not sand laminating resin. Now in order to make the surface really nice and shiny, you sand the sanding coat down, which is basically you got your laminating coat and you put your fill coat which is a sanding coat and then you put a finishing coat which is also made out of basically the same stuff. Surfacing agent, laminating resin, and catalyst, you set off slower and it dries nice and smooth and you can sand that and polish it. It comes out just like glass, it is like this. This is just three layers of resin and it is done.
