Short Side Thrust Kick in Koden Kan Martial Arts
Hi! I’m Madison Warner and I’ve been instructing for over 10 years under Michael M. Foley system of Koden Kan Karate and today I’m going to show you short side kick. You’re going to start in your set position, go into kiba dachi, you want your knees very low and bent in a stance and your feet pointing straight ahead and this time we’re going to have our guard over to the right cause our attention is to the side. This is kick is directed to your attackers knee, okay you’re going to bring your foot to your knee and you’re going to kick straight out knee level, you don’t know how tall your attacker’s going to be so just do it to your own knee and bring it back and down. So the main important part of this kick is the pivot, you have to pivot your non-kicking foot, so you’re going to bring your knee up and you’re going to move your heel toward your target as you kick and notice that I’m not pivoting on my heel, if you do that you’ll fall over on your head probably unless you’re talented so what you’re going to do instead is you’re going to rotate on the ball of your foot okay, don’t lift your heel up I’m just doing that to show you. Okay watch…bring it up, move your heel that way on your kick, back in and down, also you want to rotate your hit on the kick so what you’re going to do is roll your hip over as you do this on the kick, okay that’s short side.
