Water Use with the Tile Saw

Hi, my name is Brian Carter on behalf of Expertvillage.com. I have 10 years of tile experience. Today I am going to show you the importance of having water in our tile saws. One of the nicknames of these saws is called the wet saw and it is a very important aspect of ceramic tile cutting, we are going to show you a little bit about that. We have got the saw set up what we want to do is get some water in the tray. I forgot something so we are going to do that first, we have got a plug here, most saws have some kind of plug that allows us to empty the tray when we are done, we will release the plug just kind of like a bathtub. Here I am going to pour the water in, we want to fill this thing up as much as we possibly can to make sure the pump is covered with water sufficiently, okay. Just pour it in there, looks like we are good, it is leaking out the side, that’s just fine, we are outside in mother nature, mother nature likes water. The reason we have to have water in the sides because it cools the blade and it cools the tile while it is cutting, that’s enough. If we do not have water, your blades are going to burn up and your tiles are going to get too hard. The clay actually will start to melt and it will deposit layers upon the tile blade, which is a diamond blade and it has got pieces of diamond in it and it just won’t cut anymore, it will ruin the blade and so that is why it is called a wet saw. It is a form of lubricant and it is very important.
