Downward Block in Koden Kan Martial Arts
Hi! I’m Madison Warner and I’ve been an instructor for over 10 years and I’ve been trying in Michael M. Foley system of Koden Kan Karate and today I’m going to teach you downward block. This is going to be in the zenkutsu or forward stance that we’ve learned earlier, you’re going to step back in an angle you don’t want your stance to be too skinny or too wide but just right in between that and you’re going to start with your hand here again…the downward block we have it’s a long version, if you’re actually to get into an altercation you would shorten all of these techniques just you know naturally, they’ll get shorten so what we’re doing is we’re showing you a long version so that you can practice that and you’ll have strength through the entire motion. So your arm will go out, up, touch your shoulder and down and again this is just for training purposes to train your muscles and your mind, you want to block your leg, start with out, up, push your shoulder and this is the block…you’re blocking your leg here or a kick coming into the leg and out, up, push your shoulder and you’re going to block, alright that was downward block.
