Rising Block in Koden Kan Martial Arts
Hi! I’m Madison Warner and I’ve been an instructor for over 10 years and today I’m going to be showing you Michael M. Foley’s system of Koden Kan Karate-do. Your first block is going to be called rising block, the reason I’m starting you off with block is it’s the most important part, think of that for a second if someone’s trying to attack you or punch you, anything like that your first reaction should be to block obviously, you know that. Okay so we’re going to get in our kiba dachi stance and you’re going to bring your hands back here, you want your forearm to be leveled with the ground and this is where we start most of the hand techniques from, your rising block is for a defense something coming over the top of your head, somebody coming down with a strike that way, so you’re going to bring your hand across your face and then up rising, okay and the angle of your arm should be like there was a house over you head like that…but you’re going to move it over a little bit so that your fist is over your opposite eye so you’re going to bring it up and block and then when you do your second one you’re going to cross them so that you’re guarded here as you block again…block…and block, okay that was your rising block.
