How to Give a Lower Back Massage

On this series, we are going to focus on the lower back. Of course when you start out a session, it is very important to connect with your clients. Apply a light pressure. Then what we are going to do is, we are going to do effleurage which a light, a very light streaming motion up and down the back. This is where you also apply your oils or creams. Usually it is good to start at the upper back, apply a little pressure, and then go downward. It is real light. Effleurage is light, circular or stroking motions up and down the back. You want to really push out away from the spine. The first rule of massage is that you never massage on the spine. So you want to continue to go up and down, maybe three or four times. This is to help to warm the back up, connect with your client and feel for any trouble areas that you may want bring attention to later on in the massage.
