The Kneading Technique for Neck Massage

Once you have stretched and applied pressure to the neck muscles, you may begin use a technique called kneading. Kneading is best done with the knuckles. It is a repetitive movement. Up and down in a certain area. Back and forth. You rotate your knuckles, one over the other. If the client can take it, you can just do deep massage. Apply pressure with every movement. Apply increasing pressure until you get to the base of the neck. You do not want too much pressure here. Once again, it is just rotation of the knuckles. Similar to holding one of the Chinese orbs where you rotate them in your hands. Stay on the outside of the neck. Do not go upwards. External mastoids are good to work, but only if you are going to be very specific, very light and apply pressure. You do not want to apply too much pressure to the whole area. You want to continue kneading. One knuckle over the other. It is always a good habit to press out. Find a place for that knot to go.
