This is Shannon Kniep on behalf of Expert Village. Now that we have the sheetrock in place; insulation in place, we're going to try to prepare the edges. Now this is sort of makeshift, because we are matching brand new with old. This has texture on it; this has nothing. We have to create a flat plane in order to hide this seem. What we're going to do is take a scraper, like so, and any bumps or ridges along the outside--I would say the outside 1.5 to 2 inches along here--we need to get rid of those so that when we put our tape on, splicing the edge; the tape goes right down the center and it's smooth and we'll start hitting it with our joint compound. But first, we've got to scrape it. Sometimes, a chisel works good, sometimes just a flat blade like a trowel works good. It just depends on whatever the situation is; how hard the texture is on the old sheetrock. As much as possible, we try to not create any more bumps.
