How to Prevent Injury in Marathon Training

Hi! I’m Angela on behalf of Expertvillage.com. Right now, I am going to go over some of the ways to prevent injuries while training for a marathon. Right here I have seven ways to not injure yourself while training for the marathon. Step one is very important. It is to gradually increase your weekly mileage, and not try to rush your training because you will only injure yourself or make up for the miles you missed in the previous week. Step two; it’s very important that you have good running shoes that accommodate your feet. For example, I have a skinny heel, so I have to look for shoes that accommodate that so that I don’t injure my feet while running and that I have the proper support on concrete. Step three is, listen to your body. If you feel a pain, don’t ignore it and see a physician immediately, because if you can keep on using it you can actually cause permanent damage. Four, since you are using your body more than usual more than the average person it is extremely important to get additional sleep and nutrients to be very healthy, aware of what you eat and what your sleeping habits are. Step five is to take off one day a week from training to allow your body to repair and six are stretching programs, stretch your hamstrings, your quads, your calves, your lower back. Lastly, remember to gradually warm up to raise your body temperature before doing any strenuous activity.
