The Long Slow Distance Run in Marathon Training

Hi! I’m Angela on behalf of expertvillage.com. Right now, I am going to show you one of the ways to train for a marathon. This specific way is called the long slow distance run, which is a very slow jog. When you are training for a marathon, eventually you want to be able to run 18 to 20 miles during a long slow distance run, but obviously at a significantly slower pace than you would be doing in a marathon. A good way to measure your speed is to go on a treadmill. You just want to do a very light jog. Again, eventually you want to be able to do this 18 to 20 miles, but it is important to do this because it allows your body to become familiar with running for a long, long time. Building up your body’s endurance is extremely important or else you will suffer damages while you are preparing for the marathon without doing this exercise. Just a very light jog.
