Chop Walnuts for Pumpkin Bread
Hi! I'm Jennifer Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I am going to show you how to make this delicious spicy pumpkin bread. Our next step is going to be chopping the walnuts. For this you will need a cutting board and a chef's knife. You want something that has some heft to it because of the motions that you will be using to chop the nuts. You will need about 1 cup of chopped nuts. So if you take the walnut halves and measure out about a cup, it is going to be approximately how much you need. You might need to add a little bit or have a little bit less. As you can see the motion that I am using to chop the nuts up is a rocking motion back and forth. Now certainly once you get a little bit better at it, you can go a bit faster but for illustrated purposes, you just want to go back and forth in each direction. If you have a small electric chopper or small food processor, you can also chop the nuts in the food processor. But for only one cup, I find that it is just as easy to chop them up myself. You want to chop them up into small pieces but you don't want them to be super small. You are not pulverizing the nuts, you just want them to be in smaller bite size pieces like this. So if you start out with halves, it is only going to take you about a minute or so to chop everything up. If you can also purchase walnut pieces at the grocery store, but they tend to be a little bit more expensive and it is so easy. You should just go ahead and chop your own.
