PAT LOUIS: On behalf Expert Village, I'm Pat Louis in Miami, Florida. And today, I'm going to show you some basic drum rhythms. You know I found out when I first started out and I kind did most of it on my own, I took a few lessons but I just wanted to get out there and play, so I started listening to tapes and so forth, and I did one thing very, very wrong and I found out very quickly. I used my arms into play, you know. Well, if you do that, you're going to end up with tight joints in here with very, very tight muscles. What you have to do is start working with your wrist, because each time you hit a drum, there is a bounce back. For instance, if you just let the stick fall, it bounces back. All you need then to do is to actually keep pressing down cause it will keep bouncing back. So once you've--get used to using only the wrists, you use your wrists forever and ever and ever. For instance, in the wipe out, song "Wipe Out". You can go on and on and on because your wrists are doing half the work, and the drum is doing the other half bouncing it back to you.
