How to Cut Avocado

I'd like to show you how to cut an avocado which is one of my favorite fruits. First of all prepare a bowl with a little bit of cold water and about a quarter cup or so of lemon juice which I reserved from my squeezings a few minutes ago. Avocados are best picked early so that you can have the shelf ripen until you are ready for them. Again the trick with the paper bag is a great tip. Wrap your avocados that are a little too firm and leave them on the counter for just a few minutes, a few minutes, a few days so that they can ripen. So I'm gong to take my nice fairly firm yet riped avocado, and I'm going to cut it right down the center. The way I do that is I just rotate the fruit around my knife. Just like that and yes it's a fruit, not a vegetable. That makes it open up so easily. Now I'm going to give it just a little squeeze to loosen it and I'm going to take my knife and very carefully aim and hack the seed and it pulls pretty much right out. You can either reserve the seed. You can put it in water and plant it for a nice science project for the kids or you can toss it in your mulching bin. Now the next step, I like to take a nice spoon. Kitchen spoon, it works fine, a teaspoon, a tablespoon or a handy kitchen spoon and I just scoop out the avocado. Just like that. Grab it at one end, and just rotate your wrist and capture it. Look at all that. It came out beautifully. You're not wasting anything here. The result is perfect, smooth, gorgeous avocados. After that, I'm going to cut them. Think about how you want to serve them. Do you want to display them? Do you want fans? If you want fans, then just make a few slices down the center and you're going to flip them over and you can place them on a plate, say if you're going to display them, like that. Look how pretty that is. Or if you want some cubed in a salad, you're going to do the same kind of cuts. I rotate them and then I just cut them. One, two, three, four, five. Beautiful, consistent, perfect avocados. I'm going to put them as soon as I'm done cutting them into the bath of water and lemon juice. That way they stay ripe a lot longer and you can enjoy them longer.
