Safety While Free Lunging a Horse

Hi, I'm Kelli and this is Covey and on behalf of Expert Village, we are going to show you my options and techniques on how to free lunge your horse. So in conclusion, free lunging is really a nice way to exercise your horse and let your horse have a little bit of freedom to run and get out their excess energy. One thing you want to make sure of is that you have a horse that really listens to voice commands and is really respectful of a whip. Cause you don't want your horse coming into the center or charging at you or kicking at you cause that could be really dangerous for you and your horse. You don't want your horse to do anything that may cause harm. So it definitely takes a lot of training to get your horse to listen to voice commands. One thing that you can do is come in a round pen such as this and have your horses on a long a lunge first so they would understand the concept of going around the outside. Just make sure that they listen to voice commands really well on a lunge line before you try to attempt this type of free lunging situation. So but if you do that and you get your horse to listen really well to voice commands, really respectful of a whip this is a really great way to them to get a little bit of exercise and to blow off a little bit of steam. Where they could be free and you are not trying to control their every move so it is really a great way. They can kind of buck around and get a little bit of energy out. So these are some techniques and options I have about free lunging.
