Questions & AnswersSo now we have our bass, and we have to tune it first. If you don't know how to tune at home, you can tune it to a piano, E, A, D, and G. You can also search on Expert Village on tuning upright bass, and there's a segment on there, I don't teach it, but they run through and show you the basics. So what we're going to do to find our first two frets is we hit the open string and then on the third string you want to hit the same note. So you got to find that note. That's not it, right, a little more. And you got to kind of find tune it. And then once you have it and you're sure of it, you can mark that fret down here with a sticker, or with light pencil, you don't want to go anything crazy, don't use pen or anything that will mark up your bass, and again, you're just starting off, so you don't want to mark the wrong note and then have it stuck there. Then you can cut that in half, and those are your first two frets, and you got this. And those are your first two frets on the upright.
