How to Find the 1st & 2nd Frets on Bass

Now we are going to tell you how to find your first couple of frets. This is for your very first bass players, first time to pick on the instrument ever. First, you have to make sure that it is tuned right, and, you can lookup tuning on Expert Village, they have a segment on that for tuning the double bass. Or, you can tune it to a piano. You get an E, this is your lower string; A, that is your second string; D, your third string, and G is your top string. So, you want it tuned and make sure you have a tuned instrument. And then, what you want to do, is pick your lower string, and then match that note on the 3rd string. And it is very important that you're right there. So, the best way to do it, is to try to hear, is it lower or higher. And if you do that a lot, you will start working on what is called a "relative pitch". You want to make sure it is right there. And once you have that, you can mark that with a sticker and that is your 2nd fret and if you cut it in half, it is your 1st fret. And you get this [play bass]. So, that is your first 2 frets, and we will go over how to get the next 2, in just a minute.
