Hi, I'm Schell Michael. I'm here with Expert Village and today we're going to be doing a series on how to surf. Some other terms we can talk about are like, "out there in the lineup" your positioning. Someone yells "outside", it's not because you're out and it's a beautiful day, it's because there are some waves coming on the outside, coming closer. So, when you hear people say that, you either want to get out of the way or start just paddling out towards the ocean so you don't get caught by the waves. Usually when they say "outside" it means it's a relatively large, they don't just yell "outside" when it's just like a regular wave coming through, it has to be a substantially good size wave. The lineup is where you're positioned, where most surfers wait just to catch that wave. When you also hear the terms, "Oh, I just pearled", "I just went over the falls", "I just poked", "I just wiped out." Those are pretty much all when you're getting tossed off your board. A common one I like to use is "worked". "Oh, I got so worked. I felt like I was in the washing machine. I was down there and it was so gnarly." So, "worked" is a good one when you're getting substantial beatings from the ocean. "Over the falls", "poked" or "pearl" is when you think you got a great wave and all of a sudden you kind of just drop off the top of the wave and you just like go right into the ocean. So it's like you're going over the "falls" of the waves.
