How to Play "Holiday in Cambodia" by Dead Kennedys

Hey, this is Joe Wiles with the Rock and Roll Conservatory, on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment, we're talking about "Holiday in Cambodia", with the Dead Kennedys. Now the whole song starts off with that, some scratching on the guitar, some delays, and some stuff, but the riff we're talking about is when the guitar actually kicks in. Take a look. To start it out, we're going to put our index finger on the second fret of the G-String. We're going to put our pinkies up here on the fifth fret of the E-String. We're going to go back and forth between those two for a while. Now to prevent accidental hitting of the B-String here, lay your index finger down a little bit so it's muted. Just lay it down a little bit so it mutes out that string, not fretting it. So, if you were to play them all in sequence on accident, it would sound like this. So only these two ring out. You repeat that for a few bars, and then it goes into the main riff of the song which is third fret on the G-String, second fret on the G-String. Three hits each, one two three, one two three. When it comes up here to the fifth fret of the B-String, down to the fourth fret. The next riff is in the fifth fret of the G-String, down to the fourth fret of the G-String. Use your pinkie to stretch up to the seventh fret of the B-String and our ring finger to let go down to the sixth. It sounds like this. Slowly, in context, it sounds like this. To speed, it sounds like this. In our next segment, we're going to talk about "Rock You like a Hurricane", by the Scorpions and I'll see you then.
