How to Play "Lay Down Priestess"

Hi this is Joe Wiles with the Rock and Roll Conservatory on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment we're going to talk about "Lay Down" by Priestess. It's a little finger heavy with the left hand but with some practice I'm sure you'll be able to get it. Let's take a look at the guitar. It starts out half step down tuning first of all. That's D sharp, G sharp, C sharp, F sharp, A sharp, D sharp. You start by hitting your low E string twice. You're going to hammer on to the second fret from open to second fret on the A string. Have your pinkie on the fifth fret position of the D string ready to go. Then hit your open A string twice. Bring your ring and index fingers down to the fifth and third fret of the low E string. That bit sounds like this. Pull off. The next little riff starts on the second fret of your G string, it's a pull off. Second fret D string then open, open G string, second fret D string then open D string. That series of six notes sounds like this. Then we come up here modified power chords where we don't use the pinkie on them. The third fret of the low E string with your index, the fifth fret of the A string with your ring. Slide up two frets. You repeat that three times but at the, on the fourth time through the very last bit, the power chord bit instead of going up it goes down. That riff slowly sounds like this. To speed that riff sounds like this. That's a tricky one but make sure you practice it a bit. Practice it over and over again. We're going to tackle "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath in our next segment. I'll see you there.
