Hi, This is Joe Wiles with the Rock and Roll Conservatory on behalf on Expert Village. We're going to tackle Rage against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade" in this segment. To start off you're going to want to drop your guitar down to a Drop D tuning. I'll show you how to do that in just a second. You'll also need a wah pedal to kind of complete the riff. Let's take a look at the guitar. Now my guitar is in the standard tuning. What we need to do is drop our low string down to a D note. So from low E a whole step down to D. To do that just pick these two. This is already a D and drop it till' they match. Alright. The riff starts on the third fret. Just lay your index finger across the third fret of the low D now string. The lowest string. The A string and the D string there. We're focusing on these two notes. The first bit of the riff sounds like this. The strumming for the next part is easy. It's just your open three lowest strings. Okay. We're going to do some left hand muting and it's to look like this. Later I'll show you the wah pedal part, but it looks like this. Now to actually make that part sound like Tom Morello's part you got to put it on your wah pedal. We're just going to tap our foot on the wah pedal like we're tapping our foot to the beat of the song. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four, and then play that riff I just showed you. Okay? In context, slowly, that riff looks like this. Repeat that. Activate your wah. In context, to speed, that riff sounds like this. Practice that a few times. It can be tricky at first to activate your wah in time with the song, but give it your best shot, alright? In the next section we're going to talk about "Lay Down" by Preistess. I'll see you there.
