Hello, my name is Dr. Susan Jewell. And on behalf of Expert Village today, I'm going to talk to you about the topic of hemorrhoids. Now, in this particular clip we're going to talk about the ways to decrease the signs and symptoms of hemorrhoids by the type of beverages that you drink. Now here I have a whole collection of different kinds of beverages. What's really good to reduce the risk of getting hemorrhoids, or if you do have hemorrhoids, to reduce some of the symptoms, like pain from hemorrhoids, is, a very good suggestion is to drink lots of fruit juices. For example, here we have a juice squeeze and it's raspberry. Raspberry, black current, here's some black current, cranberry juice, very good because it's got fibers in it too, for high fiber content in these juices. Also, here's orange juice. So, fruit juices and milk, of course, is good to drink when you have hemorrhoids, or to reduce risk of getting hemorrhoids. And certainly, certainly is to drink a lot of water. Water is very good for the system. It re-hydrates you, prevents your dehydration. It also helps to decrease the swelling in the area where the hemorrhoids are forming. It also helps to soften the stools, so it prevents constipation and decreases your risk of getting hemorrhoids. Now, the things to actually avoid drinking, some of the beverages when you have hemorrhoids or are at risk of getting hemorrhoids, is of course - number one - is to decrease the caffeine intake. So decrease the coffee that you drink, decrease the number of cups of coffee that you drink. And alcohol is also something that you should try to restrict from taking into your diet when you're at risk of getting hemorrhoids or when you do have hemorrhoids. So, these are some of the advice in terms of the beverages to drink or not to drink to decrease the risk of getting hemorrhoids and also the decrease of the pain, the symptoms, when you do have hemorrhoids.
Doctors are always quick to recommend cranberry juice but what they fail to mention (or perhaps understand) is that the cranberry juices sold in stores contains almost no cranberry and are very high in High Fructose Corn Syrup. It is very irresponsible for doctors to recommend such poisons to their patients. But I guess Doctors are accustomed to that when they write their Rx's.
