How to Read Eighth Note Drum Rests

Now our theme are eighth rests, and eighth rests each get one-eighth, or one half of a beat, so we have one and two and three and four and, and we're playing on the offbeats. Rest, play, rest, play, rest, play, rest, play, one, and, two, and, three, and, four, and, one, and, two, and, three, and, four, and ... so we got all these eighth rests on the on beat, and then our left hand is playing this dotted quarter note melody again, one, two, and three, four, one, two, and three, four, and then when you light it up, one-and-two-and-three-and-four, one-and-two-and-three-and-four, and one-and-two-and-three-and-four and one-and-two-and-three-and-four and one-and-two-and-three-and-four and ... so if you look at it on the sheet music here, one, two, and one and the and of one and two, all fall on this first note. The second here, this chord played on the and of two, plays at the same time as the bass, and then the and here, and then you have four here, five, so you have, alone, alone, together, so it comes together on the and of two, and then you have alone, alone, alone. So you have this back and forth syncopation. One-and two-and-three-and-four, and one-and-two - or one-and-two-and-three-and-four and... good thing to speed up. And that's played really fast. And again you can play it really slow and get that down. One and two and three and four and ... and that's your next two measures, which incorporates our eighth note rests.
