How Often Do Carpets Need Changing?

VICTOR FEGHALI: Hi. This is Victor for ExpertVillage.com, and we're here at Foothill Carpet to show you how to buy carpet for your home. Carpets are going to last, regardless. It'll be down. It doesn't lose fibers. It's going to be down for a lot of years, but how good it's going to look over the duration of that carpet would be determined by the different densities on the carpet and the twist on the fiber. So the heavier the twist, the longer it's going to look good. So a good quality carpet would probably be down for, average, 10 to 15 years, and that's an average time on replacing carpet. Usually, 10 to 15 years, either it's starting to mat down in the heavy-traffic areas or the yarn is untwisting that's why carpet kinda looks matted down. When these fibers start untwisting and look matted down, it's probably time to replace it. That's why more and more people in heavy-traffic areas go to wood floors, laminate floors or even tile.
