Basic Origami Folds
Hi! I am Michael Webb on behalf of Expert Village.com. Right now I am going to show you some of the basic folds that you are going to find in origami which can be useful later because there is a bit of terminology involved. First off, one of the most basic folds that you are going to find is a valley fold. Now what a valley fold is is just a basic fold, which is above the paper, sort of towards you in a sense. Just the opposite you will find a mountain fold. It would be the same thing, only you are going to tuck it under instead of bring it over. Now a crease, some people do not know the difference between a crease and a fold. A crease is when you just simply bring it down and edge your crease and open it back up. So that you have a lot of time, just for a guiding line or sometimes it makes for easier folding. Now one of your more complicated folds you are going to find is a squash fold. Now what this is, just one example here: if I take this triangle base and make a crease here, I am going to do this in both directions, you can bring your edge in, open up the middle and bring your top point down to the bottom point and that is the squash fold. One other type of fold that you will find a lot is what is called the inside reverse fold and this can take a little bit of time to master but once you get the hang of it is really easy. Now on the inside reverse fold, what you do is make any type of fold, do this in both directions just to get a good crease going and you would take it and open it up and bring your fold inside of the rest of your paper, like so. Hopefully knowing some of this terminology might help you a little more when learning origami.
